Android Tablets

Various manufacturers such as Asus, Samsung, Google, and Lenovo make tablets that use the Android operating system. This system was originally developed by a company called Android Inc which was later purchased by Google. The operating system was originally designed for smart phones, but the later versions work on both smart phones and tablets.

An Android tablet can be used to browse the web, send and receive email messages, download apps (applications) from the Google store, download and watch movies, download and read ebooks (or have the tablet read them to you), listen to music (especially nice with appropriate earphones), take photos and videos and view them, and so forth. They are especially good for seniors since they use a touch screen so no mouse is used.

An Asus Android tablet is available during the computer club's Wednesday Afternoon Workshops for people who wish to try using one before purchasing it and also to learn how to use one. If you already own one, you can bring it to the workshops to get help in using it.
